Start with the composition, not the label

Acrylic solid surface is a resin-and-mineral composite. “Pure acrylic” usually describes the resin system; it does not mean that the whole sheet is unfilled acrylic. For example, Corian identifies acrylic resin and natural minerals in its material-composition bulletin. The specification for the actual sheet being purchased remains the relevant reference.

“Modified acrylic” and “custom blend” are not enough to define a material. Request the resin system, sheet thickness, colour reference and relevant test data. The name alone does not establish heat resistance, impact performance, recycled content or a fire classification.

Match fabrication requirements to the selected colour

A curved reception desk, a straight vanity top and a wall panel place different demands on the same material. For curves, include the inside radius, sheet thickness, formed dimensions and locations of joints. Ask the fabricator to review the proposed shape before approving tooling.

Thermoforming limits can vary within a single manufacturer’s colour range. HIMACS, for example, publishes different radius guidance and restrictions for different patterns. A radius demonstrated in one plain colour should not be assumed achievable in a heavily patterned sheet.

Evaluate the finished surface in its actual setting

View a sample of the specified colour and finish under the proposed lighting. Check the face, an exposed edge and a fabricated joint, rather than assessing only a small flat chip. Directional or veined patterns also need an agreed orientation and panel layout.

For a bathroom, record the planned cleaning products and their use conditions. Chemical resistance depends on the material, chemical, concentration and contact time. A general statement such as “chemical resistant” is not a substitute for the selected grade’s care instructions.

Order a complete fabrication specification

The drawing should identify overall dimensions, cut-outs, edge profiles, supports, joint positions and interfaces with basins or other materials. Check the applicable fabrication instructions for support and fastening details; sheet thickness alone does not determine an acceptable span.

For a quotation, send the sheet or component drawings, colour reference, finish, quantities and delivery destination. Identify any required test reports by standard and application. Review the offered grade and documents together so a substitution cannot quietly change the specification.

These documents explain general material and processing principles. They do not certify an Anhe product or replace its own technical documentation.
